Personal Financial Readiness

The Travis M&FRC Financial Readiness Program mission is to assist individuals and families in attaining financial security throughout their lives. Counselors and Educators are available in a class or one-on-one setting for all members of the military community.

We provide the following:

Preventative Education:

We help you develop financial goals and improve money management skills needed to be financially ready for the challenges of military and adult life. Common topics include PCS/deployment readiness, student loan management including Public Service Loan Forgiveness, purchasing a vehicle, moving out of the dorms, getting married or divorced, and planning for a new baby.

Crisis Education:

If you are experiencing a financial crisis such as an unexpected emergency, death of a loved one, or stressful credit loads we can help you develop a workable budget or a debt management plan.

Proactive Education

Learn about how to effectively plan for your long-term financial security and wellness. We’ll help you feel more prepared in planning for long-term goals such as retirement, home buying, education financing, or opening a business.

M&FRC Financial Counselors and Educators hold certifications through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards and/or the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.

We strive to serve base personnel as the most trusted resource for quality financial education that is always free from conflict of interest.

FTAC is mandatory for all first duty station Airmen E4 and below. Topics include understanding pay entitlements, banking, budgeting, saving and investing, car buying, debt and credit management, and local area consumer issues.

First Duty Station Officers

This class is mandatory for all officers w/in 90 days of arrival to first duty station - UOD.

Budgeting 101

​Learn the basics of a budget, how to financial goals, pay down debt, and more!

Retirement Planning TSP

Introduction to the Roth/Traditional 401(k)-type retirement plan.  Topics covered will be the rules governing TSP enrollment/participation, how to make contributions, and investment funds options.

New & Used

​Learn how to get the best deal on a new or used car purchase.

Home Buying

Learn about leasing vs. buying; various costs associated w/ housing; what to look for in real estate; working with a realtor; home inspection; financing; closing costs; and more.

All About Credit

Learn how to rebuild a good credit history, tips for using credit wisely, pitfalls that cost you plenty, your rights and responsibilities.
